Summer Learning & Activities

Do you feel like your summer could use a little more education?  Let's all do a little learning together!

We have put together a short 4 week ramp up to get us ready for school.  We hope you will join us.  We have included corresponding activities, some are free, some aren't, but no worries it's summer time and NOTHING is mandatory - it's all just FUN!

Week 1 - DINOSAURS!

FEE: Monday, July 21st @ 11am: Meet us at Imagine Children's Museum in Everett for some fun hands on learning and then head upstairs for some dinosaur fossil digging. 

FREE: Wednesday, July 23rd @ 11am: We're trying to get access to have our play date at Cedar Cross Preschool - if not we'll meet at Tambark Park for a dinosaur craft and book party from Usborne Books.  Celeste will bring us some books that apply to our Summer Learning and some preschool favorites. 

FEE: Saturday & Sunday July 26th & 27th - 9am - 7pm both days:   Jurassic Quest at Comcast Arena.  There will be over 50 life size animatronic dinosaurs, dinosaur rides, fossil digs, dino air mazes, face painting and more!

Fun Dinosaur Activities

Make your own dinosaur tracks in play dough or paint.   Check out this post from Mom Endeavors.  

Make some fun paper plat dinosaurs get the dinosaur paper from Learn with Play - at Home. 

Make an awesome dinosaur sensory bin for the kids to play and discover in from Fantastic Fun & Learning

Give them a little size perspective by making them a dinosaur footprint to compare to their footprint or your footprint.  Check out the post from I Can Teach My Child

Week 2 & 3 - ALL THINGS UNDER THE SEA!

FREE: Wednesday, July 30th - 2pm - 3pm: Whale Tales @ Brier Sno-Isle Library 
Discover amazing facts about these giants of the sea, many of which live in our own ‘backyard.’ Experience up close; baleen from a bowhead whale, an ear bone from a fin whale, the upper jaw of an orca, and the skull of a harbor porpoise, all from the Burke Museum. For school age children. Supported by the Friends of the Brier Library.

FEE: Friday, August 1st - Activities starting at 10:30am: Wild Sharks
10:30am and 3:30pm Parachute Game - Puget Sound Hall
11am: Story Time - Puget Sound Hall
12:15pm and 3pm: Diver Show - Window on Washington Waters
2pm: Meet a Shark Expert - Puget Sound Hall
3:30pm Parachute Game - Puget Sound Halll

FEE: Monday, August 4th - 12:30pm: Whale of a Time on Jetty Island

Get the facts about the whales of Puget Sound, especially the gentle gray whales. Discover what they eat and how they sound. Learn when they travel through our area and how to spot them.

FREE: Saturday, August 9th - 9:15am - 11:15am Explore Mukilteo Lighthouse Beach

Washington State University Extension Beach Watchers and the Mukilteo Recreation Department are partnering to provide free educational opportunities at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park Beach this summer. Local Beach Watchers will be on hand to help families learn more about the beach and the amazing creatures that the low tides expose.  Visit a touch tank near a paved path or learn from Beach Watchers roaming the beach. Fun Underwater Activities

Check out this cute killer whale craft to make fro paper plates and many others from A, Bee, C, Preschool. 

Feed the shark - have your older kids help and your littles feed the shark!  Check out this craft from Toddler Approved.

Make a fun Jello Aquarium treat with jello from Come Together Kids.

Week 4 - MUSIC, SOUND & MOVEMENT!

FREE: Wednesday, August 13th - 6:30pm - 7:30pm Instrument Petting Zoo Bring the entire family down for an hour of music and learning. Children will have the opportunity to touch, play, and learn about a variety of instruments. Musicians will be on hand to demonstrate the different instruments and show kids how to play each one. This is a perfect opportunity to get your child interested in music.

FREE: Thurdsday, August 14 - 10am - 11:am Recess Monkey Concert.  Join us for a fun-filled, toe-tapping, rockin'good time on the shore of Silver Lake. Bring your friends, blankets, chairs and be ready to sing and dance. Silver Lake offers a playground next to the stage area, a sandy beach and designated swim area, picnic tables, restrooms and is
